AUSTIN — The grand jury looking into the actions of Wallace Hall, the embattled University of Texas System regent, is getting 90 more days to decide whether to indict him, according to the Travis County district attorney’s office.

The jurors were expected to finish their work by the end of last year. However, they were unable to hear from all the witnesses in time, triggering the three-month extension, Assistant District Attorney Gregg Cox said Friday.

In September, officials confirmed a grand jury had been empaneled to probe Hall, who months earlier was censured by a Texas House transparency panel. The committee also referred the case to the DA’s office, asking prosecutors to investigate whether Hall illegally released confidential student information while researching alleged corruption in the UT System.

Lauren McGaughy contributed reporting.
